Things That Annoy Me

Is it just me or has the world become a bit annoying lately?

It must be me. It's been a long winter and I miss the farmers market and the warm sunshine and fresh vegetables.

But the people, the traffic, the long lines - I feel like I need a vacation someplace nice and sunny - like Canada.

I try to remain upbeat, I don't want to be a blogger who launches into a boring diatribe of everything that ails her.

But it's been a rough week.

So I'll make it quick ...

Things that annoy me:

1. Screaming kids in supermarkets.
Now I'm not talking about crying, I mean screaming. You know that sound Bill Cosby talked about that travels up your spine and makes you want to go up to the parent and say, "Do you not hear that?" One kid was screaming so loudly because he wanted something in the store that I almost offered to buy the damn thing for the kid myself just to shut him up. It would have been money well spent.

2. People who cut me off in traffic.
Oklahomans are notoriously bad drivers. They tailgate and cut you off every chance they get.

3. Loud Commercials.
Forget the health care crisis, the war, the economy - if I were president, the first thing I would do is pass a law making it illegal to run ridiculously loud commercials.

4. Not enough cashiers.
Now I don't shop much, but lately it seems that every time I go to pay for something, I am waiting in line. Worse yet, in mall department stores, I usually have to hunt someone down in order to give them my money. Retailers are making it less and less enticing for me to visit their stores. The older I get, the more I am inclined to shop online, or shop at small, locally owned businesses (more on that later) because it's such a nicer shopping experience. Life is too short to spend it miserable inside a busy store. And our big Super center is the worst. Every time I go there I feel like I am in a dream scene from a David Lynch movie. Where do those people come from?

Last but not least ...

5. Retailers who don't shovel their sidewalks when it snows.
Now, this is a big one for me. I come from a small town and when it snowed, every place of business shoveled its sidewalks. It makes sense. For safety reasons and for the fact that it makes it easy for people to come and spend their money. Nowadays, major grocery stores and even our local Blockbuster stores don't shovel their sidewalks. I get a bit grumpy when I'm sloshing my way up to the door. Especially when it's a corporation making 10.3 billion dollars a year.

That's all.

Thank you.

I feel better now.

I just got back from Canada and I can recommend it. Of course it helps that I stayed in a great hotel and had people driving me around and feeding me -- no worries about traffic, grocery shopping, etc.

Amen Michelle. You're not alone. Thanks for the rant! I can assure you that as a fellow Okie, I was never one to tailgate and cut people off! It happens here as well, however. Have a great stress-free day.

I second ALL of those!! #1 especially gets me - I remember back when my daughter, around age 2, pitched the occasional screaming fit in a store. I promptly put everything back and left the store with her (not what she really wanted and I remember her being quiet immediately once we were out of the store and saying "I'll be good now, Mom - can we go back?" but I stuck to my guns and she learned not to pitch fits in the stores. I don't understand these parents who simply put up with this nonsense...

Hey, we all have to rant sometimes. It's been a very long winter.

You know what my pet peave is? driving behind someone with their blinker on ready to turn, no oncoming traffic, and it takes them what seems a half hour just to turn the wheel,it drives me up a wall, and I always seem to be behind them!
